Description

Abstract
The research includes two parts that will be conducted in two consecutive years. The first one applies an integer programming model to fine the optimum path of a specific flight, which minimizes the direct operating cost of the flight. Empirical data from a Taiwanese air carrier will be used to validate the mathematical formulation. The second part develops a heuristic approach to solve the path optimization problem in a generalized network in which the flight is allowed to change its airway during the cruising phase. Additionally, a decision-making support system will be developed to make the problem solving model be used for daily routine operations."
