"自工業革命以來，持續排放至大氣中的二氧化碳造成了全球的暖化，也導致了海洋的酸化。然而，相對於無脊椎動物，海洋酸化對魚類的影響則所知甚少。申請人之前的研究顯示，嚴重的酸化水體(pH 7.4-7.6)會抑制點帶石斑(£»印仏fas 的代謝與生長内分泌系統，造成生長的延遲。然而，酸化的環境對魚類成長生理的影響可能還包括骨骼鈣化與重建等諸多面向。石斑的早期發育會經歷變態階段，其中形質上的變化涉及了鈣質硬棘的退化與磷片的發生。許多外在環境因子，例如溫度、營養以及酸鹼度等，可能經由内分泌系統的調控影響石斑的變態時程。過分提早或者延遲的變態發生時間，可能導致石斑錯失最有利的成長季節，進而影響族群的存續。然而，目前國際上尚無海洋酸化對魚類骨骼鈣化或者早期發育影響的相關研究。而未來海洋的酸化對石斑早期生活史的影響將足以造成海洋生態與養殖產業的衝擊。因此，本計晝擬就此一課題，以點帶石斑來進行此一研究。研究内容將探討何種酸化的程度足以影響石斑幼魚的早期發育與鈣離子代謝；同時，本計晝中將從緊迫反應、能量代謝以及離子平衡的角度探討酸化環境影響魚類早期發育與骨骼成長的可能機制。本計劃不但是海洋酸化對魚類生理影響的重要基礎研究，同時也有助於永續漁業與族群保育。此項資訊也有利於政府制訂定未來的環境政策。" "Since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, continual emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere has resulted in both a steady increase of global temperature, and increasing acidity of the world’s oceans. The acidified seawater has been known that influences invertebrates dramatically. However, impacts of ocean acidified seawater on fish were less known. In earlier studies, we demonstrated that highly acidified water (pH 7.4-7.6) regulated the metabolism and endocrine system of orange spotted groupers (Epinephelus coioides), which led retarded growth rates. Moreover, the effects of acidified environment on fish growth physiology may occur in other aspects, i.e. bone calcification and remodeling. Groupers undergo a long metamorphic phase during the early stage of life, in which the calcium spines are resorbed, scales and a striped pigmentation pattern form. There are many external factors, e.g. temperature, nutration and pH, etc., that may influence the endocrine system and disrupt the timing of metamorphsis. The grouper with discordant development rhythm could miss the best growth season and, in consequence, reduced population viability. However, the impacts of ocean acidification on bone/spines calcification and remodeling during metamorphic phase of fish has never been studied, despite the possible effects may damage the marine ecosystem and aquaculture industry. Using orange spotted grouper, we aimed to investigate how predicted acidification of the ocean environment may affect the early development and calcium metabolism of fish. Furthermore, the possible roles of stress responses, energy metabolism and ions hemostasis plays in this pathway will be inspected in this study. This project proposed an important research regarding to the effects of ocean acidification on fish physiology. As well as, the findings are not only benefit to the sustainable fishery and population conservation, but also provide irreplaceable information for future environmental regulation."
