淡水河河口海域為北台灣最大流域河口，為嚴重優養化之河口海域。汞對生物的毒性相當高，而浮游生物對甲機汞的累積能力極強，但國內至今對於淡水河河口海域汞元素的分布所知有限，有鑑於此，本計畫研究淡水河河口海域汞元素各物種的分布、轉換與倆相分布探討之地球化學變化研究，藉由分析淡水河河口海域水中溶解態、懸浮物及沉積物中之總汞與甲基汞之濃度分布與比例，以瞭解其對沉積物汞物種分佈影響以了解淡水河河口海域汞的地球化學循環。此外本計畫亦將分析淡水河河口海域內之生物如浮游生物、魚、貝類等等生物，分析生物肌肉組織中之總汞與甲基汞之濃度，以了解淡水河河口海域生物對汞元素之蓄積能力，與汞元素在環境中之轉換
