抗藥性之細菌感染是日益增長的全球衛生問題之一，由於抗生素的濫用產生的抗藥性菌株也導致了養殖產量的下降。許多國家制訂嚴謹的養殖動物抗生素使用法規，在進口水產品中也要求抗生素零檢出，因此開發新的非抗生素治療方式對總值高達2300億美元的水產養殖業具有重大幫助。此外，由於弧菌是水產養殖和水產品加工過程常見菌種，因此本研究無論是噬菌體或其溶解素，未來除了可用在白蝦養殖上，更可拓及至其他物種養殖、加工品處理、甚至醫療應用，後續極大發展潛力。
