Adoption of socially interactive technologies for shipping services

摘要: In this research, the effects of the adoption of socially interactive technologies (SIT) for shipping service in ocean freight forwarding on employees' anxiety and job performance are investigated by adopting the decomposed theory of planned behaviour model. Seven constructs are established from the literature review. Furthermore, the research data and hypotheses examined are analysed using the structural equation modelling approach. The results reveal that perceived usefulness, perceived presence, subject norms, and perceived ease of use are positively related to the adoption of SIT in shipping services, whereas the adoption of SIT is positively related to employees' job performance and the technology anxiety of using SIT in shipping services is negatively related to employees' job performance for ocean freight forwarders. Moreover, gender, age, and department have significant moderating effects in the model. The impact of technology anxiety on job performance was stronger on inside female staff than outside male sales representatives, whereas the impact of perceived useful and subjective norms on adoption was stronger on the older and inner groups.

An Individual-Based Model to Quantify the Effect of Salinity on the Production of Apocyclops royi (Cyclopoida, Copepoda)

摘要: In this study, an individual-based model (IBM) was established and applied to simulate the effects of salinity variations on the productivity of a promising live feed cyclopoid copepod Apocyclops royi for aquaculture applications. The model integrates the effect of salinity on the different reproductive traits and temperature on female longevity. To calibrate the model developed on the Mobidyc platform, we collected data from previous literature and conducted complementary experiments. The model outputs on total nauplii production match the experimental results. Both showed a progressive increase in nauplii production from 0 up to 21 PSU, beyond which the production decreases. There were no significant differences between the estimated nauplii production and the observed ones for most salinity conditions. We then used the model to estimate the egg and nauplii production of a population initiated with 1,000 females along a salinity gradient from 0 to 39 PSU during 20-d cultivation. Around the optimal salinity of 21 PSU, the egg and nauplii production peaked at 1.8x10(5) eggs and 1.39x10(5) nauplii, respectively. A deviation of 7 PSU from the optimal salinity range would lead to a loss of 22 to 25% in egg and nauplii production. The results indicate that implementing the IBM into a life-cycle model provides useful tool for managing the risks of salinity variation on the copepod productivity in aquaculture conditions.

Inter-annual Variability in Growth and Maturation of the Swordtip Squid Uroteuthis edulis in Yilan Bay off Northeastern Taiwan

摘要: The swordtip squid Uroteuthis edulis, distributed in the temperate and tropical neritic waters in the Indo-Pacific region, is a crucial component of marine ecosystems and is a target species of fisheries in the Northwest Pacific. Although studies have elucidated the growth and maturation of the squid in the southern East China Sea (ECS) shelf, few have assessed the population biology of the squid in waters in the vicinity of the southern ECS. We collected samples of swordtip squid from a trawler in Yilan Bay (YLB) between January 2011 and December 2012 to examine the growth and maturation of the squid based on statolith microstructures and the inter-annual variability in certain parameters as well as the potential underlying mechanisms. The average dorsal mantle length (ML) of the squid was significantly higher in 2011 than in 2012 in both sexes. The ML-body weight relationship differed significantly between 2011 and 2012 in both sexes. Squid hatching peaked in summer (June and August)in 2011 and spring (March and April) in 2012. The average ML-at-age data were described using the exponential function and power function for female and male squid, respectively. Female squid matured to 139 mm at 133 days in 2011 and to 133 mm at 137 days in 2012. Male squid matured to 160 mm at 151 days in 2011 and to 148 mm at 133 days in 2012. However, the ML- and age-at-maturity of the squid in YLB were lower than those of the squid in the southern ECS shelf. These results indicate that YLB is one of the feeding grounds for squid that have hatched in the southern ECS shelf and have been transported southward intermittently to YLB. Further study of the population structure and potential population connectivity of the squid in the entire ECS shelf is warranted to obtain data for the development of effective conservation and management measures for the squid and its fisheries in the Northwest Pacific.

Changes in Red Color Sensitivity over the Spawning Cycle of Female Three-spined Stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)

標題: Changes in Red Color Sensitivity over the Spawning Cycle of Female Three-spined Stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)
作者: Li, Li-Chun; Roufidou, Chrysoula; Borg, Bertil; Shao, Yi Ta
摘要: Male red nuptial coloration is a primary mating signal for three-spined sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus), and the retinae of both sexes are especially sensitive to red during the breeding season. Red sensitivity is an important aspect of female mate choice in this species, but only when they are ready to spawn and not over the entire breeding period. Here, we aimed to determine if the red sensitivity of female sticklebacks change over their repeat spawning cycle. To this end, we assessed retinal opsin mRNA levels and behavioral red sensitivity in females over this cycle. Both methods indicated that females were more sensitive to red during spawning than in the inter-spawning intervals. Relative expression levels of red color opsin genes (lws) and optical motor sensitivity were high during spawning, decreased after the spawning period, and then increased again 72???96 h later when they were ready to spawn again. Thus, female sticklebacks altered their color sensitivity according to need, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear.
