摘要: This study integrated perspectives from coastal women in Alappad, Kerala, and literature on marine fisheries in India to propose a sustainable fisherwomen-led seafood value chain (SVC) model. Findings revealed that the increasing value and demand for India's seafood products could promote sustainable blue foods and livelihood empowerment. This will depend on increasing opportunities and sustainability practices in the SVC, notably fisherwomen's empowerment, inclusion, and stakeholder collaboration. Unfortunately, current actors' interactions, production patterns, and linear operations perpetuate unsustainable trade-offs that are dominantly segmented by fisherwomen, including price manipulation and volatility, seafood waste, and overfishing. These extinguish the critical and often undervalued fisherwomen's role towards better SVC practices. Through the triple-layer business model approach, this study demonstrates that fisherwomen's empowerment could promote circularity and increase consumer-producer benefits, including offering flexible seafood products and services. To strengthen this, we propose a fisherwomen seafood customers' choices App and dashboard to serve as an indicative platform for strengthening fisherwomen-led businesses, customer demand-supply choices, and preferences. We argue that as coastal fisherwomen offer multidimensional SVC services, digitalized and strengthened fisherwomen-led enterprises can strengthen blue transformation targets, including seafood safety, local communities' nutrition, and security. Without win-win SVC practices, sustainable fisheries practices might not be realized.</description>

摘要: 2D monolayered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are promising materials for realizing ultracompact, low-threshold semiconductor lasers. And the development of the electrical-driven TMDC devices is crucial for enhancing the integration potential of practical optoelectronic systems. However, at the current stage, the electrically-driven 2-D TMDC laser has never been realized. Herein, the first electrically-driven 2-D TMDC microcavity laser have been developed. In this device, an alternating current (AC) generates electroluminescence lasing in suspended monolayered WSe2 integrated on a microdisk cavity. The input-output curve, bandwidth narrowing, and second-order coherence is analyzed to confirm the lasing characteristics at room temperature. The realization of the room-temperature AC-driven 2-D TMDC laser establishes a new area of research on electrically pumped compact lasers and is likely to assist with the implementation of diverse TMDC-based practical photonic devices in the future.</description>

摘要: The widespread presence of microplastics (MPs) in environments and the food web is a serious concern for both aquatic ecosystems and human health. Most studies have used single tool to assess risks primarily to organisms and humans, leaving gaps in comprehensive risk assessments. This study conducted an investigation of MP abundances in surface water and wild oysters from natural estuaries of major rivers in Taiwan. Additionally, the data also used to develop an integrated risk-based framework for evaluating potential risks from organisms to human MP exposure to seafood consumption. We assessed aquatic ecological risk quotients (RQ), oyster mortality exceedance risk (ER), human MP intake exposure, and human liver damage ER. Our data showed that MP abundances ranged from 0.025 to 4.701 items/m3 and 0.015-2.374 items/g (wet weight) in water and oysters, respectively. Although RQ values indicate negligible risk for aquatic ecosystems, but oyster mortality ER results from oysters exposed to MPs showed a 6 % increase in mortality (10 % risk). The probabilistic representation of risk curves of MPs for alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in human serum was found to be low, indicating minimal health risk to humans. Overall, our data suggest that relying on a single risk indicator may underestimate potential risks, multi-faceted tools are recommended for assessing organism and human health.</description>

摘要: This study examined the relationships, structural holes, and structural hole spanners among Taiwan's over-the-top (OTT) operators. It explored whether Taiwan's local OTT operators can serve as bridges or structural hole spanners within this network. Qualitative structural analysis was performed, in-depth interviews were conducted, and data were analyzed using a grounded theory approach. Five themes were identified: (1) loose networks among local Taiwanese OTT players, with Netflix as a bridge; (2) Netflix as a structural hole spanner in Taiwan's OTT network; (3) Netflix's advantage from being a structural hole spanner, with local players lacking a reciprocal relationship; (4) reinforced structural holes in the Taiwanese OTT industry; and (5) opportunities for local Taiwanese OTT operators to gain an advantage. The findings identified the existence of structural holes and the following four dimensions of disconnection: structural holes from a lack of global-scale capital among local players, structural holes due to an imbalance between production and sales, weakness of local platforms leading to expanded structural holes, and structural holes in the OTT industry allowing piracy actors to play bridging roles. Domestic operators lack strong platforms, market share, and scale, with most struggling to build brands, highlighting their limited key resources. Overall, domestic operators hold no significant competitive advantage. The findings pave the way for identifying strategies to improve the industry's structure to prevent local OTT players from becoming even more marginalized.</description>
