本計畫對台灣鄰近海域之潮流與洋流之特性進行綜合研究，探討洋流對潮流等近岸水動力特性之相關影響，做為海洋資源的開發及永續發展利用之依據。本計畫為四年期總研究計畫：「臺灣鄰近海域洋流之模擬及其對近岸海流之影響評估」之第一分年研究，針對台灣鄰近海域特殊的海峽與陸架坡地形，透過美國普林斯頓大學海洋模式 (Princeton Ocean Model，POM)，利用其三維模式的特性完成台灣鄰近海域的海流模擬，分析台灣鄰近海域年季月洋流特性，以作業化的程序完成模式的建立與應用。 This project aims to investigate characteristics and interactions of tidal and ocean current around the coastal waters of Taiwan. Its achievement could be the basis of ocean resources exploitation and sustainable use. It is a preliminary research for the main project “A study on simulating ocean current and evaluating the relationship between ocean and tidal current in the coastal waters of Taiwan”. The newest version with the wetting and drying scheme of Princeton Ocean Model (POM) is introduced from Princeton University of USA in this study. The property of three-dimensional numerical can simulate ocean current on the complex topography of Taiwan coastal waters. The annual, seasonal and monthly characteristics of ocean current are also analyzed by simulation results. The standard operating procedure of the computational environment of POM will be established for the simulation of ocean current.
