Description

Abstract
"Global warming influence on the climate system is clear, but its effect on ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystem is still unresolved. Long-term observation and research of the ocean is essential to better understand the effects of global change on ocean system. Therefore, the second phase of the integrated project of “Effects of Global Change on Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems in the Seas surrounding Taiwan in the Northwest Pacific (ECOBEST-II)” is proposed continually. There are 17 scientists from 5 different universities in the ECOBEST-II team. In the first phase, ECOBEST team has made the following substantial contributions to our nation. 1. The ranking of scientific publications of the East China Sea from our team is world number 1. 2. Promoted one special session in 2012 Ocean Science Meeting held on Salt Lake City, USA. 3. Published two special issues in Biogeosciences and Journal of Marine System, respectively. 4. Fostered 148 master students and 14 Ph.D. students. 5. Two of ECOBEST team members received distinguished awards by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Outstanding of Young Person’s Foundation. 6. Host 2013 International Oceanographic Conference of the East China Sea for MOST to support our nation’s advocate of Diaoyu Island’s sovereignty. In the second phase of ECOBEST, we will continue to research on the effects of regional anthropogenic and global warming forcing on ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystems in the East China Sea and Northwest Pacific under global change environment."
