Description

Abstract
"Fish viral vaccines have been in development for over 20 years. Unfortunately, with the exception of the recombinant DNA vaccine for IPNV (infectious pancreatic necrosis virus) sold by Norbio (Internet), there are no commercially available vaccines for fish viral pathogens in aquaculture. Recently, efforts of a number of laboratories have successfully developed some vaccines against important viral diseases for fish under controlled laboratory conditions. However, many problems are still remaining in the development of commercially available viral vaccine. Grouper iridovirus of Taiwan (TGIV) was isolated from moribund grouper in 1995, due to its virulence and broad host range; the potential menace of this iridovirus to marine aquaculture industry is undoubtedly. A more effective culture system has established in our laboratory and informal pilot studies showed that vaccination of formalin-killed virus protected groupers from TGIV challenge test. Therefore, attempts were made to develop inactivated and attenuated vaccines against iridoviral infection, and assay the effectiveness in this project."
