Description

Abstract
"Grouper (Epinephelus spp.) is an important and high-priced maricultured finfish in several Asian countries. However, outbreaks of viral disease, such as iridoviral infection have plagued larvae and juvenile groupers in the past few years. Grouper iridovirus of Taiwan (TGIV) is highly pathogenic and have been shown to cause severe economic losses in maricultured fish species in this island. There is evidence that survival of viral infection could become carrier in populations and shed virus via vertical or horizontal transmission. Afterwards, further stress due to adverse environmental conditions will result in the onset of disease from time to time. For this reason, attempts were made to clarify the prevalence of iridoviral infection in brood grouper first. Subsequently, tracing infection of individual brooder and survival of offspring will provide useful information for disease control strategy. Thus, effective protection against iridovirus will be expected to achieve by eliminating of the carrier state and vaccination strategies."
