Description

Abstract
" Pandaloidea is the third largest superfamily in caridean shrimps and with some species having high commercial importance. The large number of genera and species in this superfamily also resulted in many debates on the phylogeny and systematic of these shrimp at all taxonomic levels. As members of Pandaloidea are mostly distributed in deep waters and difficult to collect, there are very limited molecular phylogeny studies on this group. The applicant has long been working on the taxonomy and phylogeny of decapod crustaceans and particularly renowned on Pandaloidea. The present project will continue the extensive sampling of decapod crustacean fauna in Taiwan from intertidal to the deep sea, and actively participate international marine biodiversity expeditions organized by the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris in different world oceans. The abundant Pandaloidea material collected will enable detailed taxonomic and phylogeny studies on this group of animals. Moreover, the specimens and results obtained will able to lead the taxonomic and biodiversity researches of decapod crustaceans in the Indo-West Pacific, the highest marine biodiversity area in the world.
