Description

Abstract
"An irregular cutting stock problem is how to tightly nest several irregular shapes on a material sheet so as the unused space is as large as possible. An irregular shape is a shape with irregular outline or holes. Shipbuilding industries produce so large ships that their shapes are very different in size and outline. The irregular cutting stock problem in shipbuilding is therefore much difficult when compared with other industries. In the previous project, the applier’s has found that large shapes are much more difficult to nest than the small ones. Therefore, in the proposal, a method “ONFP” is especially designed for nesting large shapes. Based on the concept of open nesting, the ONFP method uses no-fit polygon (NFP) algorithm so that large shapes are touched in some way but not intersected with each other. At last, the unused empty spaces may be larger (because packed) and then easier to fill small shapes. In this research, the material sheet with all large shapes having already placed is going to fill it with small shapes by the NEST system. The NEST system is a nesting software based on BLF (bottom-left fill) algorithm."
