Description

Abstract
"Stock enhancement has been proposed as a means to increase the depleted fish stocks for decades. Hatchery fish or aquaculture seed had caused considerable genetic change (reduce genetic variability and lower the genetic diversity) in the next generation. Continuous massive releases of hatchery fish or artificial seed have raised concerns about the negative genetic effects on wild populations. The possible genetic effects of releases have become a focal point when evaluating the effectiveness of stock enhancement program recently. Long-term monitoring changes in genetic diversity and tracing the pedigree in aquaculture operations using molecular markers had proved to be a power tool for genetic assessment and was proposed as a routine practice. Black sea bream (Acanthopagrus) is one of the most economical important marine stock enhancement and aquaculture genus in Taiwan. I will identify the species and evaluate the genetic structure (allele frequency, hererozygosities, inbreeding coefficient, effective population size) of natural and hatchery-released fish from different locations using molecular markers. In addition, I will also design to maintain the genetic quality of hatchery population being the same with wild population to minimize the genetic impact to wild population and maximize the success of stock enhancement stocking programs. Risk management within the hatchery before releasing the aquaculture seed into the wild."
