Description

Abstract
Vector control plays a key role in prevention and control of major vector-borne diseases and often constitutes the first line of activity in case of epidemics of vector-borne diseases. Chemical control (use of pesticides) is still the most important element in the integrated approach to vector control. But they are non-selective and harmful to other beneficial organisms. The biologically-active plant materials with anti-mosquitocidal properties and mosquito control by copepods etc. are attracted in recent years, because of their biodegradable nature or biological control through predation and being relatively safer to human and other non-target organism in the Environment. Furthermore, the pilot study of Acoustic Larvicide Systems will be conducted in this research at the first time. There has been outbreaks of the dengue fever in Taiwan for many years. All mosquito spreading diseases have been serious problems for Taiwan. However, biological control, using the natural enemies of Aedes, appears to be an alternative approach to the systematic failure of use of insecticides (Lardeux et al., 2002). In order to reduce or solve the mosquito vectors, we are trying to do experiments both in situ and in the laboratory so we can reach the goal of reducing the mosquito vectors through biological agents without affecting human being negatively. This is an international collaboration project between Taiwan and India. We will work together between Taiwanese and Indian research team members and try to minimize the mosquito vectors through biological and ecological friendly agents.
