Description

Abstract
國際海洋古全球變遷研究(IMAGES)之計畫總目標為探究過去三十萬年 的全球海洋變化史。結合此國際計畫之目標與旨趣,臺灣 IMAGES 計畫在第一期 (1996-1999)與第二期(1999-2002)進度中已分別於 1997、1998、與 2001 年 三航次中總共探取了二十六支巨型長管活塞岩心。在 IMAGES 第三期計畫中 (2002-2005),總計畫將協調各子計畫主持人,完成岩心分析工作,並針對下 列六項科學目標進行研究:1. 西太平洋邊緣海岩心記錄之高解析度地層與年代 模式建立;2. 最近一次冰盛期之西太平洋邊緣海海洋環境與洋流格局;3. 西 太平洋邊緣海之高解析度最近一次冰消期記錄;4. 東亞季風氣候與高緯地區氣 候之遙相關性研究 ;5. 南海氣候於全新世和最近一次間冰期(Stage 5)之穩 定性;6. 發展矽藻化石作為西太平洋邊緣海古海洋環境指示工具。IMAGES 總計 畫在第三期計畫中,亦將加強執行下列三項工作重點:1. 強化我國古海洋研究 群所需之實驗設備與基礎設施與增強博士班學生培育與訓練,吸引國際博士後 研究員來臺研究;2. 與國際 IMAGES 計畫辦公室與國家海洋科學中心合作,籌 建古氣候資料中心實驗室(Paleoclimatology Data Center Laboratory),增 強現有總計畫之岩心分析與詮釋資料之整理與服務功能;3. 持續參與國際 IMAGES 岩心探取航次,保持與國際古海洋岩心位址調查與規畫活動之參與、提 高我國科學家古海洋研究論文在 SCI 期刊上發表的質量、積極準備綜合海洋鑽 探計畫(IODP: Integrated Ocean Drilling Program)計畫書的撰寫等。總計 畫並將提供國內外 IMAGES 相關計畫之協調、諮詢、資訊交換、資料庫管理、岩 心採樣、國外相關會議參加、與國內外論文專輯出版等服務。 IMAGES (International Marine Past Global Change Study) project aims to study the history of ocean variability of the past 300,000 years. Consistent with the international objects and interests, Taiwan IMAGES Phase I (1996-1999) and Phase II (1999-2002) projects have actively participated international IMAGES activities and successfully retrieved 3 26 giant piston cores in IMAGES 1997, 1998, and 2001 cruises. One of the major objectives of the service project in the new phase (2002-2005) is to better coordinate all IMAGES participants in conducting the core analyses and research, with aiming at the following six scientific objectives: 1. High-resolution stratigraphy and chronology of IMAGES western Pacific marginal sea core records; 2. Last glacial maximum [LGM] ocean environments and surface circulation patterns of the western Pacific marginal seas; 3. High-resolution records of the last deglaciation patterns of the western Pacific marginal seas; 4. Climatic teleconnection between East Asia monsoon and high-latitude climate; 5. The south China Sea climatic stability in the Holocene and the last interglacial stage (Stage 5); and 6. Developing diatom fossils as environmental indicators in western Pacific marginal sea paleoceanography. The service project in the new phase (2002-2005) will also concentrate the following three working objectives: 1. Strengthen and improve the permeant equipments and infrastructures that are necessary for paleoceanographic research in IMAGES; increase education and training for Ph.D. students' programs and attract more international post-doc scientists; 2. Cooperate with international IMAGES office and the National Center for Ocean Research (NCOR), establish a Paleoclimatology Data Center Laboratory, to ensure better archiving and supporting the uses of all IMAGES core and analytical metadata; and 3. Continuing participating future IMAGES cruises, and activities of site survey and cruise planning; increasing the quality and quantity of IMAGES-related SCI papers published in international journals; and preparing for IODP (Integrated Ocean Drilling Program) proposals. This service project will also provides a platform for the planning of coordination, exchange of information, consultation, data base management, core sampling services, attending international workshops and meetings, publications in national and international journals for all IMAGES project participants.
