Description

Abstract
"The transportations of organic and inorganic nutrients derived from the land to the ocean via the atmosphere are one of the main factors controlling the biogeochemical process in the upper ocean. Water soluble ion cycling in the upper ocean is, however, poorly understood. Therefore, this information is extremely valuable to assist biogeochemical cycle for the East China Sea. In this study, the land-base and ship-board stations (locate on the Keelung, Peng-Jia island and Ocean Research Vessel II) have been established to collect aerosol samples. The aims of these stations are to find out the transport mechanisms of inorganic and organic nutrient between continental and marine aerosols. The nitrogen species will be classified into inorganic and organic forms. The water soluble species will be analyzed by following the analytical methods which were established by Chen and Chen (2008). The major cations and anions on the marine aerosol will be analyzed. The enrichment factor has commonly been used to identify the strength of the crustal and sea salt sources. In addition, the combustion products, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) will also be analyzed to understand the influence degree of anthropogenic behaviors. To study the complexity and heterogeneous nature of aerosol particles in the region, cluster and principal component analysis will be used."
