本研究針對棲息於台灣東北部附近海域的平滑白眼鮫進行其生殖、年齡成長及食性研究，期能提供一完整的生物學資訊，以為日後資源評估及保育的依據。以下就結果作一扼要說明。本種性成熟體長經判斷雌雄分別為205公分及181公分，產仔季節則在每年7至10月間，胎仔產出體長約為65-70公分，妊娠期經判斷約為1年。每胎產仔數3-16尾不等，平均為8.55尾，胎仔性比接近1:1。產仔間隔則至短為二年。利用Holder氏的方法推估von Bertalanffy growth equation的各參數，雌魚分別為t/sub 0/=-1 yr，k=0.314，L/sub ∞/=261 cm，雄魚分別為t/sub 0/=-1 yr，k=0.263，L/sub ∞/=303 cm。本種體長與體重之迴歸關係式，雌雄分別為W=3.5×10/sup -6/TL/sup 3.1131/及W=3.8×10/sup -6/TL/sup 3.0938/。本種雌、雄魚之性成熟年齡分別為5.91歲及4.46歲。經胃內容物分析發現，本種皆以中表層之鯖、參為主要餌料生物。 To ensure the abundance of Silky shark, the biology of this species must be understood before instituting any fishing management. The results are described as following. Size at sexual maturity were 181 cm and 205 cm for male and female, pupping season is estimated to be between July and October since near full-term embryos appear during that period. The gestation period is estimated to be about 12 months. 3 to 16 embryos with an average of 8.55 were pupped per litter. Matured females pups once per two years. Sex ratio of embryos is estimated to be 1:1. The von Bertalanffy growth curves parameters obtained using Holden's method were as follows: maximum observed length (L/sub max/)=261cm, growth coefficient (K)=0.314, age at zero length (t/sub 0/)=-l yr for females; and maximum observed length (L/sub max/)=303cm, growth coefficient (K)=0.263, age at zero length (t/sub 0/)=-l yr for males. General weight-length relationship were W=3.5×10/sup -6/TL/sup 3.1131/ and W=3.8×10/sup -6/TL/sup 3.0938/ for females and males, respectively. The age at sexual maturity were 5.91yr and 4.46yr for both female and male. Stomach content is comparatively low in this study. Scomber japonicus, Trachurus declivis and T. japonicus were the dominant species of food items for this species.
