Description

Abstract
Social networks are personal or professional sets of relationships between individuals. Social networks represent both a collection of ties between people and the strength of those ties. Traditional method of conducting ethnographic research captures rich sociological data yet is constrained to a limited number of subjects simply due to its time consuming nature. However a new method of collecting data on social systems has emerged with the prevalence of the internet and ubiquitous mobile network. Combining location aware search technology and profile matching, the proposed work enables users of the system to find people to contact on a spontaneous basis, particularly in a mobile, on-demand situation, thus building a supportive social network. For example, help receivers could have immediately available and easily accessible help, or part-time paid help providers could effectively increase their chances for employment Therefore, this kind of social network is aimed to enhance interpersonal closeness and to support psychological functioning. The construction of this mobile community includes two features in terms of psychological functioning. We first try to match people with certain information they provide and also with the kind of help they request. After people are matched with each other, they could examine each other’s qualification and accumulated creditto determine whether to proceed to interact with each others. By the end of the interaction, the users will again have the chances to give feedback to the interaction target as his/her credit appraisal. This project consists of three subprojects. The main project is responsible for the construction of the network infrastructure. The service deployment and management of community services, which include searching mechanism, location management, security control, profile matching and data mining, are implemented in subproject 2 and 3, respectively. And the assessment of the community services is carried in subproject 1 where three communities including domestic violence victims in search of temporary shelters, parents with developmental delay children, and part-time paid help providers will be included for focus group discussions and in-depth interviews.
