Description

Abstract
The small abalone strain 108 has been selected and developed in cooperation with between research team led by Prof. Nan in Aquaculture Department, NTOU, and the Fishery Research Institute, COA. This project will continue to follow up to assess the effectiveness and carry out the conservation of this new strain, intermediate breeding between the strain broodstock and cultivation to increase the provenance and the amount of broodstock. In addition to the small abalone strain 108, we will investigate and collect the existing breeding small abalone strain 108 in Taiwan for species conservation, breeding, and the genetic structure, Phylogenetic study, and genetic diversity of Taiwan's main small abalone sources, and try to collect different species from Taiwan's wild environment for improvement of genetic breeding. Water quality and disease monitoring will be carried out during the project period on the small abalone breeding demonstrating farm. Specialists and academics will be invited to provide industrial guidance to assist small abalone breeders in establishing the concept of disease prevention to improve the management efficiency of Taiwan's small abalone breeding and increase the chances of successful breeding. The project also guides small abalone breeding to combine with local eco-tourism and leisure, drive the development of fishing villages, and increase the value of fishery harvesting in order to achieve sustainable development of local industries.
