摘要: Coastal settlements with abundant natural assets can translate conservation ideals into livelihood-based tourism through the Satoumi paradigm, which prizes the co-evolution of people and seascapes. Focusing on Fengbin Township, Hualien, this study used a tailored choice experiment to quantify how visitors negotiate trade-offs embedded in community-based governance, including travel depth, guide mechanisms, harvesting controls, coastal recreation facilities, and funds. Attributes and levels were distilled from field observations, expert interviews, and a review of Satoumi case studies, then estimated with Conditional Logit and Random-Parameter Logit models. Results show visitors are willing to pay NT$ 102 for tours grounded in Indigenous ecological knowledge and NT$ 70 for harvest access restricted to local residents or guided tours, while they consistently reject mass-tourism formats, heavy-footprint facilities, and blanket no-take zones that disregard resident livelihoods. These preference patterns reveal that market demand dovetails with adaptive, community-driven management, providing both social licence and financial rationale for Satoumi-style stewardship. The evidence offers concrete guidance for policymakers: align coastal zoning, permitting, and incentive schemes with Indigenous knowledge systems and visitor preferences to safeguard biodiversity and sustain local economies, turning sustainability rhetoric into scalable practice.</description>

摘要: This collective essay, contributed to a special issue on East Asian engagements with philosophy of education, situates educational posthumanism where modern humanism meets its limits. Modern educational and social institutions have been constructed on logos-reason, technical rationality, predictability, calculability, and controllability-to secure safe and stable human lives. Through shared norms, rational procedures, and standardized judgment, they have pursued universality, equality, and fairness. The resulting impasse is here framed as a tension between logos and pathos that exceeds it-vulnerability, dependency, finitude, the excess of the gift, and contingency. Seven short essays engage two interrelated educational problems. First, as human-made technologies expand beyond human control, how can we take ethical responsibility for these technologies and their consequences? The first three essays by Chia-Ling Wang, Kuan-hsun Wu, and Seung-woo Cho &amp; Jin Choi treat AI and digital infrastructures as unavoidable conditions and ask how humanist ethical and critical orientations can be sustained through attention to concrete situations of learning and teaching. Second, the latter four essays ask how education might respond to marginalized human and nonhuman others without demanding complete assimilation. Ami Ogasawara and Akane Takasu seek possibilities that modern humanist education could not recognize under posthuman conditions. Kazuaki Yoda and Michelle Ocriciano ask what may have been left behind before, or within, modernity, and pursue a dialogue and a sense of circulation between humanism and posthumanism. This collective essay was further enriched by the open reviews of the distinguished scholars Petar Jandri &amp; cacute; and Michael A. Peters.</description>

摘要: Impaired insulin signaling facilitates alpha-synuclein aggregation and exacerbates neuroinflammation related to Parkinson's disease (PD). This study investigated whether 8-gingerol from ginger could protect against MPP+-induced alpha-synuclein aggregation and neuroinflammation in SH-SY5Y cells via the insulin signaling pathway. MTT assay showed that MPP+ markedly reduced SH-SY5Y cell viability at 0.5-2 mM. Treatment of cells with 6-gingerol and 8-gingerol, but not 6-shogaol, significantly attenuated MPP+-induced cytotoxicity. The concentration at 20 &amp; micro;M showed the strongest neuroprotective effect. Immunoblots showed that 8-gingerol treatment attenuated the accumulation of (Ser129)p-alpha-synuclein and (Thr231)p-Tau induced by MPP+ for 24 h. Furthermore, 8-gingerol normalized the aberrant phosphorylation of IRS-1, Akt, and GSK-3 beta induced by MPP+. It also suppressed the MPP+-induced expression of inflammasome-associated proteins, including FoxO1, TXNIP, NLRP3, and cleaved-caspase 1. Pre-treatment with the PI3K/Akt inhibitor wortmannin abrogated the protective effects by increasing (Ser129)p-alpha-synuclein and NLRP3 inflammasome protein levels. These results indicated that 8-gingerol protects SH-SY5Y cells against MPP+-induced the alpha-synuclein aggregation and NLRP3 inflammasome activation is mediated through the insulin signaling pathway.</description>

摘要: Members of the class Campylobacteria are microaerophilic bacteria widely distributed across diverse environments and are abundant in hydrothermal systems. However, cultivated representatives, particularly from shallow-water vents, remain limited. Here, we investigated the genomic diversity and environmental adaptation of the genus Sulfurospirillum. Phylogenomic analysis revealed a clear separation between terrestrial and marine clades, with relatively few cultured representatives in the marine lineage. Strain 1307, isolated from shallow-water hydrothermal vents, expands the genomic representation of this underexplored clade. Pan-genome analyses based on complete genomes revealed an open pan-genome, indicating ongoing diversification of genus Sulfurospirillum. Further comparison between hydrothermal vent (HTV) and non-HTV lineages identified distinct adaptive features. Vent-associated strains are enriched in genes involved in sulfur metabolism, carbon fixation, the glycine cleavage system (GCS), and the biosynthesis of key cofactors (spermidine, thiamine, lipoate, and heme), reflecting metabolic adaptation to hydrothermal environments. Beyond well-established processes such as sulfur metabolism and autotrophic carbon fixation, the widespread presence of the GCS in vent-associated lineages suggests its potential role as an auxiliary carbon fixation pathway under anaerobic conditions. Overall, this study expands the phylogenetic and genomic diversity of Sulfurospirillum and offers new insights into the mechanisms underlying environmental adaptation and niche differentiation in vent-associated Campylobacteria.</description>
