| dc.description.abstract | The major bioeconomic factors contributing to the increase of prawn production in Taiwan during the period from 1977 to 1986 are introduced. The prawn culture industry in Taiwan is analysed with respect to the nature of the product, the business environment, and the management of the system. Selection of Penaeus monodon as the major species for culture, improved culture technology and development of related industries have contributed to the successful development of the prawn culture industry. Alternatives and solutions to some of the existing and foreseeable problems are recommended. Technology which will further increase productivity and reduce production cost is the key to ensure the continued development of this industry. | en_US |
