This paper describes the environmental conditions and the current status of cage farming in Taiwan. Each year, about three to four typhoons land somewhere in Taiwan during the period from late June to early October. Farming sites are mainly distributed in inshore or off-shore waters of Penghu and Pingtung Countries. A flexible submerged cage system has been popularly employed by the local farmers. Over 60 modern floating or submergible cages have been imported since 1996. Fourteen species have been culture un cages. Fish in cages are fed raw fish and most and dry pellets. Ectoparasitic infections occur in some species. The merits of fast growth, storng disease resistance and low production cost in cobia have prompted the farmers to select the fish as the first candidate for culture.en_US
