For cryopreserving sperm of marine fin-fish, extenders are needed to dilute viscid milt and to provide nutrients for long-term storage. The aim is to find a more functional, convenient and inexpensive extender for milkfish and black porgy sperm preservation. Pure honey is not only a natural bacteria inhibitor but also reasonably priced and readily available. The result of this study shows that 1% honey (449 mOsm/kg) was an optimum substitute for milkfish serum in the preserving of milkfish sperm in terms of prefreezing and post-thawing motility. Nevertheless, fertility needs to be studied in the near future. On the other hand, 0.5% honey (210 mOsm/kg) was used to substitute 5.6% glucose in preserving black porgy sperm and rather satisfactory prefreezing, frozen-thawed, and three-day frozen-thawed motility as well as fertility were obtained.en_US
