Experiments on induced breeding of the grey mullet, Mugil cephalus Linnaeus.

Abstract

The experimental work on the induced breeding of the grey mullet during the 1969/1970 (November/February) season, at Tungkang Marine Laboratory, Taiwan, is reported. The source of supply of spawners, technique and procedure of hypophysation, incubation of eggs, and rearing of larvae and fry are described. A record success of having 431 fry produced from the induced-bred larvae and reared under controlled conditions, has been achieved. These fingerlings grew rapidly and measured on average about 28 cm in length and 217 g in weight by the 200th day after stocking in a fish pond.
