The Central Geological Survey (CGS), operating under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), was founded on November 20th, 1978. It replaced the former Provincial Geological Survey of Taiwan to be in charge of national geological survey. The CGS integrates geological science with national economic development, territorial planning, resource development, and environmental conservation and aims to safeguard lives and property. For these purposes, the CGS provides the government and general public with diversified geological data, information and knowledge. The CGS is the only government institute for geological surveys and composed of by 6 scientific and technical divisions and 4 administrative units. The CGS is regularly re-structured to meet the needs of national socio-economic development.
