The field of biosciences has migrated from discovering fundamental knowledge to developing applicable biotechnology. As the potential and scope of bio-industry are unprecedentedly far-reaching, bio-industry has been placed among the top priorities of development in many advanced countries and is necessary for enhancing the quality of life. Biotechnology has advanced into an interdisciplinary science and is now applied not only in medical fields but also in aquaculture and farming industries. Hence, we are the era of responsibilities for promoting such knowledge-based industrial economics. DBBS was established in 2015 and is comprised of two institutes (Institute of Biotechnology and Institute of Bioinformatics and Biosignal Transduction) in College of Bioscience and Biotechnology, NCKU. We emphasize on translating fundamental knowledge into biotech products and equip students with capabilities of doing both hard science and cutting-edge technology. With those capabilities, our students are expected to be prophetic leaders of sustainable bio-industries.
