探察海洋生物資源之族群結構，為漁業生態學之核心課題，亦為漁業管理之基礎要件。魚類及無脊椎動物體內硬組織(如平衡石)之元素組成及含量，可能受海洋環境狀態影響而形成特有之元素標記，可應用於探察可能存在之族群結構，及重建生活史事件之歷程。管魷類為短生命週期之物種，其生活史參數特性，使對環境狀態之改變具快速反映能力。在海洋環境狀態可能因氣候變遷而逐漸改變時，管魷類在海洋生態系之角色可能愈顯重要。劍尖鎖管(Uroteuthis edulis)分布於印度-西太平洋溫帶及熱帶之近岸水域，為海洋生態系之關鍵組成，亦為火誘網及拖網漁業之主要漁獲物種。目前對東海南部水域劍尖鎖管族群之成長與成熟已有初步瞭解，但此族群與臺灣北部附近水域(臺灣海峽與宜蘭灣)族群之關連性(分布與洄游)為何，仍有待進一步探察。本研究計畫擬應用平衡石微構造分析，探察東海南部水域(東海陸棚、宜蘭灣及臺灣海峽北部)劍尖鎖管之族群結構及其關連性。本研究擬以三年時間完成。第一年計畫已完成一年之鎖管樣本採集及生物測量；完成一季之平衡石定齡及成長分析；及定量一季之平衡石微量元素含量等。目前執行第二年計畫。本案為第三年計畫，研究目的與工作項目為：(1)持續進行月別鎖管樣本採集及測量，並完成第二年三水域鎖管樣本之生物資料測量；(2)完成第二年三水域鎖管樣本(部分)之定齡，探察三水域不同季節群間於年間之成長參數變動；(3)完成第二年三水域鎖管樣本(部分)之平衡石微量元素檢測，探察三水域不同季節群間於年間之平衡石微量元素變動；(4)分析三水域鎖管族群之連通性，並探討年間之可能變動。 Identifying the population (stock) structure of exploited species is a central question in fisheries ecology and also a fundamental requirement for efficient fisheries management. The element composition within hard structures of fish and invertebrates, e.g. statolith of squid, may possess specific elemental signature which usually influenced by environmental conditions and can be applied to identify potential population structure, and rebuild the events throughout their life cycles. Squids are short-live species, the characteristics of their life-history traits provided them ability of rapid response to the changes of environmental conditions. Squids are likely to play an increasingly important role in the marine ecosystems where could be more variable under substantial effects of climate change. The swordtip squid (Uroteuthis edulis) distributes in the temperate and tropical neritic waters in the Indo-Pacific regions. The species is an important component in the marine ecosystems, and also a target species by the torch-light net and the trawl fisheries of Taiwan. Previous studies have provide information on growth and maturation of the squid in the southern East China Sea (SECS), while few study on the connectivity of the squid populations in the vicinity waters (northern Taiwan Strait (TS) and Yilan Bay (YLB)). The objectives of this study are to explore population structure of Uroteuthis edulis in the SECS regions (SECS, TS, YLB) and their connectivity using statolith microstructure analysis. These objectives are planned to be accomplished by conducting a three-year study. For the preliminary results of the first year, monthly squid samples from three fishing ports have been collected and measured; the statoliths from one season samples have been prepared and analyzed; and the elements of statoliths from one season samples have been detected and analyzed. Works of the second-year project are underway currently. This proposal is for the third year and the objectives and working items are: (1) to continue collecting and measuring monthly squid samples from three regions, and complete the second year’s biological information measurement; (2) to complete age determination of two-year sub-samples and explore spatial and temporal variability in growth parameters of the squids (3) to complete trace elements analysis of two-year sub-samples and explore spatial and temporal variability in elemental signatures of the squid; (4) to examine statolith elements of the squids in different developmental stages, and discuss connectivity between three regions of the squids and potential inter-annual variability.
