Issue Date: | 1986 | Publisher: | The First Asian Fisheries Forum | Abstract: | From 1974 to 1985 production of shrimp (Penaeus monodon) postlarvae (PL) in Taiwan increased from 1.15 million to 3 billion and the number of prawn hatcheries increased from 30 to 1,500. This paper describes the methods in the production of shrimp PL practiced by Taiwanese commercial hatchery technicians. All stages of the hatchery operations, such as maturation, spawning, hatching, larval rearing and algal cultivation, the difficulties encountered in Taiwan shrimp hatcheries and the practical application of these methods outside Taiwan are also discussed. |
