Title: | Overview of Milkfish Aquaculture in Taiwan. In: Liao, I C. and Leaño, E.M. (eds.) | Authors: | I-Chiu Liao Leaño, E.M. |
Issue Date: | 2010 | Publisher: | Milkfish Aquaculture in Asia | Abstract: | Milkfish aquaculture in Taiwan has a history of more than 350 years. Hatchery, nursery and grow-out technologies were successfully established in the 1960’s and 1970’s which has contributed greatly in the significant increase in the annual production of this important species. Since then, there has been not much development in the overall production system of milkfish in Taiwan, as the developed technologies are more than enough for sustainable production of this species, and to meet the market demand for both fry/fingerlings and marketable size fish. Nonetheless, milkfish aquaculture is still one of the most important aquaculture industries (particularly in pond culture system) in Taiwan. |
