In order to draw a generalized frame for studying the circadian rhythm, oxygen consumption by black porgy(Acanthopagrus schlegeli)was measuredover a 32-hour period at four-hourly intervals. Each of the experiments(twoin Oct.30-31 and one in Oct.31-Nov.1,1989)had three replicated groups.ANOVA(Analysis of Variance)tests were analyzed the differences amongthe daily records.Water temperatures were recorded at the experimentperiods. The recorded temperatures did not indicate significantly concomitantchange with the oxygen consumption. The rates of the oxygen consumptionrevealed the cyclic trend with superior peak at 14:00-18:00 and an inferiorpeak at 06:00.For estimating the possible circadian rhythm of the blackporgy, the daily rates of oxygen consumption obtained in the present work,as well as the feeding rates and heart rates involved in the previous reportsare discussed.en_US
