In addition to detailed derivation of the theory, calculations of the complex dispersion equation, friction coefficient, and the iterative computation procedures are also described. For given friction coefficients, the theoretical results are compared with the result calculated by the boundary element method to show convergence and accuracy of the present theory. The experimental cases studied by Sollitt and Cross (1972) are calculated using the present theory. The results show the effects of the anisotropic flow mechanism, and the wave steepness on the wave reflection and transmission. The friction coefficients thus calculated from the experiments can also be used for reference for easier numerical computation of the problem. The convergence of the theoretical series solution, the friction coefficient and the effect of the thickness of the structure to the reflected and transmitted waves are also studied. |
