Issue Date: | 2009 | Start page/Pages: | 213-223 | Conference: | The 8th International Conference of Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies, 2009 | Abstract: | A well-equipped port in an offshore archipelago can proffer three major service functions: Transportation, Recreation/Tourism, and Fishery.. This research finds that the freight transportation sub-function between Taiwan and the Pescadores, and the passenger ferry service among the Pescadores Islands are the two most critical sub-service functions, requiring immediate and intensive investment from the government if the four major ports (i.e. Makung, Lungmen, Sokang, and Chihkan) in the Pescadores Archipelago wish to improve their overall performance efficiently. Finally, the interviewees all agree that Makung port has the best overall performance, as Makung port is superior to the other three ports in all three major service functions mentioned in this study. |
