Description

Abstract
By including marine education as a major topic in the 2011 curriculum syllabus published by the Ministry of Education, marine education has become increasingly integrated into educational curricula at every level. In the process of promoting marine education, the marine knowledge and comprehension of teachers at each level is the primary force behind the popularization of marine education. However, suitable marine education curricula and teaching materials are lacking: the ratio of relevant content in textbooks does not exceed 5%. Therefore, the insufficient amount of relevant content presents a significant challenge for teachers in promoting marine education. Furthermore, the number of domestic science courses and activities related to marine education training is extremely minimal, and such training is primarily conducted in the form of brief keynote speeches that are difficult for teachers to apply in the classroom. This has resulted in the difficulty of promoting marine education in on-site teaching. Therefore, the primary objective of this project is to expand and refine marine education curricular activities in collaboration with teachers involved in marine education guidance groups in each city and county and with teachers who express a willingness to promote marine education.Teachers will conduct field research in localities around Keelung and perform geological observations around Keelung Islet to understand in-depth the Padoutzu intertidal zone ecology, the causes of the geological landscape, and the intertidal ecological environment. This project is integrated with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology to assist teachers and popular science in understanding each dimension of the ocean. After completing the training activities, teachers participating in the activity will conduct marine education promotion activities at their respective schools and include the results of the training in marine education curricula. This project will facilitate the development of knowledge about, love of, and intimacy with the sea in marine education, thus cultivating connections between the lives of citizens and the ocean and arousing consciousness and emotions regarding the ocean.
