Description

Abstract
The biodiversity of Taiwan is very high and with at least 1400 species of large crustaceans known from the island. Although five volumes of Taiwan Crustacean Catalog have already been published or in press, there are still many species not yet included. The present project will continue publish four more volumes of Taiwan large crustacean catalog, following the same format of the series. Each species account will contain synonymy, material examined, diagnosis, size, coloration, habitats, distribution, line-drawing of distinguishing character(s), and if possible color photograph of the species. It is planed to publish the second volume of the Taiwan crab catalog in the first year, a Taiwan lobster catalog and a Taiwan penaeoid catalog in the second year, and the first volume of Taiwan caridean catalog in the third year. The higher classification scheme of decapod crustaceans will also be revised by means of molecular genetic analysis using newly developed protein-coding genes. Results obtained from molecular phylogenetic analysis can be used in the Taiwan Crustacean Catalogs and for publishing at least six scientific papers in high impact journals.
