機場經營者與航空公司長期以來即使用各種方法來滿足旅客的目標，讓旅客擁有更豐富的旅行體驗。Arthur D. Little (2015)將智慧機場定義為以數位化為基礎的機場解決方案，並依照機場在數位化技術應用的程度將其分為四個等級：機場1.0、機場2.0、機場3.0與機場4.0。本研究將機場智慧化所產生的效益分為經濟效益與財務效益兩類，經濟效益主要是從社會的觀點，分析機場智慧化所產生的效益，財務效益則是從營運者(如機場公司、航空公司與特許營運業者)的觀點，分析機場智慧化所產生的效益。Airport operators have been applying a variety of measures to improve the objectives of passengers and to enrich their travel experiences. Arthur D. Little (2015) defined the concept of smart airports as 'digital based solutions,' and classified the progress of smart airports into four steps: airport 1.0, airport 2.0, airport 3.0, and airport 4.0. The present research addresses the benefit of smart airports from the points of economic benefits (EB) and financial benefits (FB). EB is taken from the viewpoint of the society and FB is taken from the viewpoint of the operators, i. e. airport operators, airlines, and concessionaires.
