Description

Abstract
Marine lobsters (Macrura Reptantia) are decapod crustaceans with high commercial and ecological importance. However, many evidence suggests that biodiscovery of marine lobsters is still far from complete. Moreover, there are hot debates on the phylogeny and systematic of marine lobsters at all taxonomic levels. The applicants has long been working on the taxonomy and phylogeny of decapod crustaceans and particularly renown on marine lobsters. The present project intends to continue the extensive sampling of decapod crustacean fauna in Taiwan from intertidal to the deep sea, and actively participating international marine biodiversity expeditions organized by the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris and the Raffles Museum of Biodiveristy Research, Singapore in the Indo-West Pacific. The abundant marine lobster material obtained will enable detailed taxonomic and phylogeny studies on this group of animals. Moreover, the specimens and results obtained will able to lead the taxonomic and biodiversity researches of decapod crustaceans in the Indo-West Pacific, the highest marine biodiversity area in the world.
