Description

Abstract
The data involved in digital archive are mainly stored in relational database (RDB). These data have to be transformed in XML format (promoted by W3C organization) in order to support web access. We propose to study for fundamental research issue related to this topic, i.e., (1) XML Publishing, and (2) XML Storage. XML Publishing refers to the techniques that transform the structured data stored in RDB to semi-structured data in XML. Secondly, the XML storage refers to accepting semi-structured data in the XML form and transforming such data into structured data in RDB. The problems involved in these two topics are technically difficult, including scheme mapping between various data representation, transformation between different query language (namely XQuery and SQL). We plan to study these problems in a three-year time frame. We believe that the research results from this project are indispensable to archiving the goals of 「National Digital Archives Program
