Description

Abstract
Vaccine development is one of the major approaches of controlling viral diseases in aquaculture. Unfortunately, in consideration of detailed items of vaccination, such as cost, stress and efficacy, there are only a few of commercially available vaccines for fish viral pathogens to date. We have developed an inactivated vaccine against grouper iridovirus of Taiwan (TGIV). In our forward project, microencapsulated TGIV vaccine was mixed with eel feed meal to immunized grouper orally and protection rate reached 67%. Even though only 10% protection rate was obtained in the nanoencapsulated TGIV vaccine group. The comparative results of vaccine without and with encapsulation showed that encapsulated treatment could aid to improve the efficacy of vaccination in the route of oral administration. To aim at practical uses of the TGIV vaccine, improvement of encapsulation way is claim attention in this project. Moreover, in combination of vaccine and dietary supplementation may be effective mean of increasing potency of vaccine to resist viral infection. Therefore, present study will conduct to develop encapsulated oral vaccine for practicable use of TGIV vaccine and control of the disease.
