Description

Abstract
Festival activities in Chinese folk society is not a rare leisure time during the busy working in daily life, but also a stage to show what is the culture of folk people. This plan focuses on the folk society festival activities in Keelung during Colonial Taiwan period. At that time, the more important festival activities are five, according to the time order that activities took place, namely the belief of local God Kai-zhang-sheng-wang in Dian-ji-gong(Lunar February), the belief of sea Goddess Mazu in Qing-an-gong(Lunar April), the belief of Japanese God in Shrine(National calendar June), the nature of saving all with mercy in Mid-summer Ghost Festival(Lunar July), and the belief of protecting city God in Chen-huang Temple(Lunar August). These local festival activities are different in nature which belong to Chinese belief and Japanese belief, or God belief or spirit belief, that appeared the diversity and complexity of Keelung’s folk society during Colonial Taiwan Period. This project trying to analyze these festival activities in order to observed the relationship between Chinese local leaders and Japanese government in Keelung during Colonial Taiwan Period.
