Description

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to modify the existed formula developed last year in order to further improve feed quality and reduce cost.It has been shown that when a 35%CP diet with 18%α-starch to replace an equivalent proportion of lipid in terms of energy exhibited as good growth as one having 45%CP.And a newly established 310Kcal/100g energy, and P/E ratio of 110for soft shell turtle diet was concluded last year in comparison to its latest former one with an energy of 350Kcal/100g.Ground on this base, further investigation on a cost saving formula thus focuses on the increment of digestible energy from carbohydrate source as well as the reduction of fish meal utilized in feed.Hence, the determination of optimum level of carbohydrate and the minimum level of fish meal in feed is of course the main objectives in this study. The main change in formulation can be briefly divided in two steps.First, the previous, 15%, 30%and 55%combination of meat and bone meal, soybean meal and fish meal is to be modified to contain a respective proportion of 25%, 50%and 25%for basal protein. The second step is to adjust levels of three basal protein at 30, 35and 40%CP in combinations with 0to 35levels of α-starch to make twelve combinations for diet formulation. The total amount of carbohydrate ( NFE )of each feed will be determined later after the onset of the experiment.Three replicates, each with 10juvenile turtles ( 5-10g/each )will receive a certain diet randomly selected from these twelve ones.Observation on the survivals, growth and health condition of the animals will be carefully documented and analyzed for further evaluation of these diets.Of those nutritive indices, obtained and calculated by examination on the diet and body composition of soft shell turtle are very important data both for explaining the differences in the growth performance and references for researchers in this field.A prediction of 10%in reduction of fish meal and an elevation of 10-15%of carbohydrate in the soft shell turtle feed formulation is expected.
