Green photonics as quoted from Nature journal (http://www.nature.com/subjects/green-photonics) is ""the study and development of applied optical systems for generating clean, renewable energy"". The topics included are (1) solar cells and photovoltaic devices, (2) creation of energy-efficient optical sources for lighting and display applications and (3) development of eco-friendly materials for optoelectronic devices and components. The ultimate goal is to understand the basics of the underlying physical processes in energy (eco) efficient materials/structures on their device performance and to develop their device applications. The work of our project is very interesting and meets the current trend that it is pivotal to develop the new materials and device concepts with improved performance and lower costs for achieving the market penetration of eco-efficient photonic technologies. Our project will also develop the green photonics with materials of marine origins to take the advantages of marine resources. This project contains the following research topics: (1) Research for hybrid materials with enhanced electrical properties. (2) Research for multi-functional substrates/templates including materials of marine origins. (3) Research for light manipulation structures for energy (eco) efficient photonics applications. (4) Research for green synthesized, nature-derived functional materials for eco-efficient photonics applications. The results developed in our project will be applied to the light-emitting, photovoltaic and photo-sensing devices, which are very important for pursuing the energy (eco)-efficient green photonics applications."
