Description

Abstract
Nondialyzable fraction of hot-water extracts of hard clam, Meretrix lusoria act as an apoptotic factor to hepatoma, HepG2 and Hep3B, and especially toward hepatoblastoma, HuH-6KK cells. Such hot water extracts showed strong cell aggluting and stimulating activity on cultured U-M, HB4C5, and SI102 cells but not on U937 or HL60 cells. Telomerase activity is involved in telomere length maintenance and known as a ribonucleoprotein which synthesizes telomere repeats onto chromosome ends. We also found telomerase activity decreasing in dose dependency. In this project, cellular DNA damage and telomerase activity in the presence of hard clam extract had been studied parallely. Telomerase activity was detected by designed telomere oligonucleotides with PCR amplification and DNA probe technique(TRAP). We also study the expression of antitumor activity toward several cell cultured in different medium condition.
