Description

Abstract
This research project is focused on the morphological, geographical and molecular approach for systematics, taxonomic revision and evolutionary history of freshwater gboiid genus, Rhinogobius Gill, 1859 from southeastern China and Taiwan together. The taxonomic research revealed as at least 12 undescribed species should be turned up for new to science. The geographical distribution of those group have been investigated further detail by the project. As the molecular approach for phylogenetic perspective inferred from mitochondrial D-loop sequences, the amphidromous group with small egg size have been considered as monophyletic and the most complicate non-diadromous species with large egg size which have been detected with the large genetic differentiation among species. The river system along with the different evolutionary history for current known species group. There are at least 10 SCI paper have been published and in press via the 3 year’s support of current project, and other research credit will be submit in very short time for achieving the goal for leading Aquatic Biodiversity for fishes in our region.
