珊瑚礁是漁業資源孕育的重要棲所, 也是海洋環境中生物多樣性最高, 生物生產力最高的自然棲所.近年來, 全球各地的許多珊瑚礁都面臨逐漸衰退的危機, 台灣的珊瑚礁亦未能倖免, 珊瑚白化和其他環境污染的影響程度有待估計, 亟需加以調查, 本計畫的目的即為調查台灣海域珊瑚礁的現況, 並建立數量化的資料.將採用國際珊瑚礁總體檢( ReefCheck )的標準化調查方法, 評估台灣四周海域珊瑚礁的現況, 選定臺灣東北角( 和美、香蘭、桂安、龍洞 )、宜蘭( 東澳、豆腐岬、澳仔角、梗枋、石城 )、東海岸( 石梯坪、衫原、新蘭、長濱 )、澎湖( 歧頭、青灣、蛇頭山、目斗嶼 )、小琉球( 美人洞、蛤板、杉板路 )、恆春半島( 核三廠排水口、後壁湖、跳石、香蕉灣、佳樂水、紅柴、萬里桐 )、蘭嶼( 機場、椰油、土地公廟、紅頭 )、綠島( 南寮、柴口、公館、大白沙 )等八個區域, 每區域至少三個地點, 每地點進行二個深度( 水深3m, 10m )的調查; 每一調查點以50公尺長的固定橫截線進行調查, 線上每20公分為一觀測點, 記錄底質形態( 包括: 石珊瑚、軟珊瑚、海綿、大型藻類、無脊椎動物及其他等六項 )之出現頻度, 做為估計珊瑚覆蓋面積的依據.監測時並進行攝影或錄影之紀錄.本計畫的結果將建立台灣海域珊瑚礁現況的數量化資料, 並且針對各地區珊瑚礁面臨的問題, 擬定保育珊瑚礁資源的策略. Coral reefs are one of the most important nursery ground for coastal fisheries.They are also the most biological diverse ecosystem on earth with very high productivity.However, coral reefs worldwide have suffered the crisis of degradation in recent years.Coral reefs in Taiwan have also suffered such crisis under the stresses of bleaching and environmental pollution.The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of coral reefs in Taiwan using the standard protocols of ReefCheck.Reefs in eight regions including the Northeast coast, I-Lan Country, East coast, Lutao, Lanyu, Hengchun Peninsula, Hsiao-liuchiu, and Penghu, will be surveyed.At least three reef sites, each at two depths ( 3, 10m ), will be surveyed in each region.A 50m transect will be used for the survey and the substrate type at 20cm intervals along the transect will be recorded.Substrate types are recorded in six categories ( i.e., soft corals, hard corals, sponges, macroalgae, invertebrates and others )and the point counts provide the basis for estimating coral cover of an area.Underwater photographs and videos will also be taken to record the status of each reef site.The results of this study will provide quantitative data for understanding the status of coral reefs and help to diagnose the pollution stresses and conservation problems in Taiwan.
