Description

Abstract
The cephalopods are commercially important fisheries worldwide. However, in recent years, the cuttlefish, squid, and octopus are threatened in Taiwan. The annual capture production has dramatically decreased in the past 15 years. Also, Cephalopods has become an important research object in the world in recent years, but standard laboratories can only be obtained from the wild, extremely unstable. Therefore, we would like to develop cephalopods breeding and seedling production technology, Experimental animal domestication of cuttlefish, squid, and octopus and it's genetic management. We are the particular case of large-scale breeding, releasing, and genetic management of cuttlefish in Taiwan. We cultivate at least 30,000 fertilized eggs and 5,000 seedlings per year for stock enhancement for the last five years, which have significant contributions to fishery management and aquaculture. For breeding technology, we will study the body color, individual interaction, feeding behavior, and maturation time of cephalopods, and try to domesticate them to accept artificial feed. For molecular markers, we will integrate the transcriptomes of species such as Sepia pharaonis, Sepia esculenta, Sepia lycidas, Sepiella japonica, Sepioteuthis lessoniana, and Octopus vulgaris into the database. It also develops common and special microsatellites for these species. Through this project, we will complete the domestication of three cephalopod experimental animals and explore the behavioral differences between cultured cephalopods and wild cephalopods, and further optimize and improve the benefits of cephalopod breeding and release.
