淡水河河口海域為一含氮磷濃度很高的優養化河口海域，且其沉積物總磷濃度大都超過800 mg/kg，明顯遭受污染，且其濃度以鐵結合相物種占總磷濃度58 %以上，所佔比例極高，此磷物種易在缺氧環境中伴隨著氧化鐵(三價鐵)被還原，被解離至水體中，其擴散通量為何，沉積物成岩作用如何，影響淡水河河口海域微量元素之地球化學變化為何，這些問題是本計畫想要研究回答的答案。本計畫的執行可進一步瞭解淡水河河口海域微量元素之地球化學變化，與建立淡水河河口海域水質長期資料，以其對環境之影響。
