Description

Abstract
雲端運算是國家未來重要的基礎建設,而雲端資料中心網路(Datacenter Networks)是雲 端運算硬體基礎建設的關鍵核心模組之一。我國目前在資通硬體產業的國際競爭力居於領先地 位,包含伺服器與中低階網路設備,然而在高階的網路設備顯然落後。若能運用我們現有硬體 產業優勢,再進一步加值發展雲端資料中心網路關鍵元件,不僅短期有助於雲端運算硬體產值 的提升,長期來看更有助於我國產業研發能力的提升。就我們的瞭解本計畫是目前國內除工業 技術研究院雲端運算行動應用科技中心與資策會外少數幾個針對雲端資料中心網路做系統研究 的國科會專題研究計畫。但兩者屬性相差甚遠,工研院/資策會負責的是 production level 的 系統開發。本計畫則是希望在相對極為有限的人力與經費支援(國科會專題計畫)下探索另一 種可能。這兩者並不衝突,反而是相輔相成分頭並進。相信在產官學研的相互分工合作下,更 能讓相關技術在國內扎根與發展。在本計畫中我們提出一個新的 DCN(datacenter network) 系統架構,同時對主要的系統元件及效能問題做深入的探討。本研究計畫規劃的進度為兩年, 第一年重點在 DCN architecture 的設計與一些主要 component 元件的開發。第二年的研究重 點在於評估此種系統架構下 multipath routing 的策略與 softwar-defined network (openflow) 對於 packet routing 效益的評估、及 link failure 對 routing 效能的評估。 Datacenter network (DCN) is a key module to cloud computing infrastructure. A DCN should be scalable to host tens of thousands of servers, and should be agile to provide high bandwidth/low latency data communication between any pair of physical server machines or virtual machines (VMs).Meanwhile, it should be able to resilient to transient component failure. DCN design is a challenge task, and it requires more research efforts to investigate potentialproblems and solutions. In this research proposal, we propose a system-wide study on DCN design and development. It is a two-year research project. In the first year, our objective is to develop key system components of the proposed DCN architecture.In the second year, we are going to develop a small scale prototype system enabled by SDN (netFPGA/netflow) technologies to justify the design concept. Also, intensive evaluation on system design features/parameters will be made based on the prototype system and/or software simulation. We expect we can learn much valuable design know-how of a DCN from this research project, which is beneficial not only to research communities but also to domestic computer and communication industries.
