Abstract:
Common leach, Misqurnus-anquillicaudatus, is genetically and phenotypically blackish or greyish in appearance. In contrast to this, golden leach has an attractive golden-orange color, which is genetically albino. Breeding of golden leach was attempted by means of induced gynogenesis. The female broodstock, which is golden in phenotype, was obtained from a hatchery where the traditional cross breeding between albino leach and common leach to obtain golden leach has been carried out for several years. In this study, the eggs of golden leach were stripped after induced maturation using pituitary gland of the bighead carp. Milt from the common leach was made genetically inactive by irradiation with Qv at a dosage of 1-2 J/cm2, or 0.05W/cm2 for 20-40 seconds. The eggs fertilized with the genetically inactivated sperm were subjected to cold shock of 6°c for 30 min beginning 5 min after fertilization. In those trials where gynogenetic diploid fry were successfully bred and survived, the minimum percentage of golden fry was 70%.
Body composition and free amino acids from the flesh of golden leach and common leach were analyzed. The results indicated that golden leach has higher concentrations of crude lipid and amino acids including alanine, aspartic acid, serine, histidine, glutamic acid, and arginine.
