Abstract: 
A prawn, Penaeus monodon, was cultured with and without soil extract in seawater. Higher survival and moult rates of prawn larvae were obtained in the experiment contained soil extract, where the bacterial strain which promoted the growth of prawn larvae was isolated. Some taxonomic features of this bacteria are also studied
