동아시아에서의 탈냉전과 전장 관광의 지속가능성: 진먼을 중심으로

Abstract

이 글은 동아시아에서 새롭게 형성된 전장 관광의 대표적인 사례의 하나로, 양안 사이에 있는 진먼(金門)에서의 전장 관광의 형성 과정과 관광의 실천, 효과를 살펴보려고 한다. 진먼은 양안 분단의 출발점이 된 꾸닝토어 전투(古寧頭戰役)의 현장이자, 양안 대치기의 포격전의 현장이었고, 타이완 측 최전방의 경계였다. 탈냉전과 함께 시작된 진먼 관광은 전장 관광과 국경 관광을 겸했다. 진먼 관광은 주로 서로 다른 방향을 가진 두 집단, 즉 타이완에서 들어오는 관광객과 중국 대륙에서 들어오는 중국 관광객을 표적으로 하는데, 이 글에서는 관광의 구체적 동학을 관광객과 원주민들 간의 상호작용 과정으로 보면서, 타이완 관광객과 대륙 관광객의 시선과 행태의 차이를 검토한다. 더 나아가 진먼의 전장 관광이 어떻게 대안인 샤먼에서 이에 상응하는 전장 관광을 발전시켰는가를 탐구한다. 진먼의 전장 관광은 냉전경관을 바탕으로 형성되었지만, 점차 문화적 자원들을 활용한 복합 관광으로 발전해가며, 나아가 지속가능성이 쟁점으로 등장하게 되는 과정을 분석했다.

This research is designed to study the development, practice and consequences of battlefield tourism in Kinmen island, which is a border, serving as a prime example of newly formed battlefield tours in East Asia. Kinmen island was the site of the final battlefield in the Chinese Civil War, which divided into mainland China and Taiwan, so that it became the very frontline of the Cold War-division. During the Cold War, this island became the battlefield of artillery and psychological warfare. With the end of the Cold War, tourism incorporating the experiences of battlefield and border has been started in this island. This tourism targets two groups; one is those who have a nostalgia among Taiwan; and the other is those who come from the mainland. This paper tries to analyse the dynamics of tourism through the interactions of the tourists and locals, the difference in the tourist’s gazes and the behavior between the two groups, and the consequences of the battlefield tourism in Kinmen for the corresponding tourism in Xiamen, as a counterpart of Kinmen in the Cold War. The border-cum battlefield tourism in Kinmen initially began with the Cold War landscape, but slowly developed into a more complex destination combining cultural resources, and finally, showing the sustainability of the battlefield tourism resulting from the growth of tourists.
